How We Evaluate Side Hustles
Every side hustle in our database is scored the same way, from the same research fields, so you can compare apples to apples.
The Hustle Score (0–100)
A weighted blend of six sub-scores. Each sub-score is rated 0–100 during research; the overall score is recomputed automatically whenever a sub-score changes.
We also publish Demand, Income Potential, Startup Cost, Flexibility, Competition and Scalability sub-scores on every guide. Administrators can override a score when research warrants it; overrides are flagged internally.
Trend status
Each side hustle carries one of six trend labels based on the direction of demand signals in our most recent research pass:
- ▲ Rising Fast
- ▲ Growing
- ■ Stable
- ◐ Seasonal
- ▬ Saturated
- ▼ Declining
Where earnings estimates come from
Estimates combine advertised pricing on marketplaces, freelance and job platforms, community discussion, and published surveys where available. Each guide lists its income assumptions, sources and the date it was last researched. Until live research integrations are connected, figures are clearly labeled as stored research or sample estimates.
Why actual earnings vary
Earnings vary substantially based on:
- Location
- Skill
- Experience
- Demand
- Time invested
- Competition
- Pricing
- Business expenses
We do not guarantee earnings.
Estimated earnings based on available market information. Actual earnings vary by location, experience, demand, expenses, and time invested. Earnings are not guaranteed.
Research signals we track
Search trend, marketplace demand, job posting demand, freelance marketplace demand, social media interest, community discussion, competition level, average advertised pricing, seasonal demand, geographic demand — each with a date checked. A research queue lets our team flag hustles as Needs Research, Researching, Updated or Needs Review.
